Our adventures in floristry...

Stems of the Month: March

This month’s selection features stems from one of our Mother's Day bouquets, China Blue. A bright, blue & beautiful bouquet with a golden touch, created with golden garden roses mixed with Sandersonia, Muscari, Scabious, Delphinium and Icelandic Poppies.

Sandersonia

We love the vibrancy of the Sandersonia’s bright orange lanterns – a real show stopper in the China Blue Mother’s Day bouquet. Also known as Christmas Bells or Chinese Lantern Lily, it is gown from a tender bulb, and looks glorious as part of an arrangement.

Muscari (Grape Hyacinth)

Conjuring up scenes of McGregor's garden, Muscari is one of our all-time favourites.  The milky blue tones allow our bouquets to pop and also add a cute touch. They have a very short stem which makes it difficult to incorporate in many of our designs – so we place them in little test tubes to add wonder to our florals.

Scabious Raspberry Scoop

In recent years many new intense and exciting colours have emerged on the market, this rich raspberry one is a real favourite at the shop. It has a rich, almost hypnotic hue and the most delicate stem – a wonderful addition to our natural bouquets.  You'll find it in English Garden a bouquet exclusively designed for Mother's Day.

Delphinium Triton Blue

We love these striking blue hued ‘double’ delphiniums. Although they are usually reserved for larger arrangements, we also incorporate them into our bouquets which provide a great back drop to our front facing bouquets.  This variety is in our Mother’s Day China Blue design.

Icelandic Poppies

Enigmatic and simply breath-taking, these glistening, translucent flowers look like tissue paper or crinkled silk. This is an absolute show stopper – so delicate and flamboyant all at the same time. They also come in the warmer hues, for a different feel to your bouquet.  They may not have popped open when you receive the bouquet but we love that we can offer a bouquet that keeps on giving.
